Building Teak Outdoor Bench Seat
Teak Outdoor Bench Seat – Building a bench is a simple and practical project. An outdoor bench offers a great place to sit and chat with friends or have a cup of coffee on a nice day. You may also want to place a bench near a garden or pond to create a restful place to meditate or bird watch. The reward for making your own bench makes this project well worth the time and effort. Fortunately, even a first carpenter can successfully build a beautiful and affordable piece of outdoor furniture.

Cut your boards to the correct length. Start with your 1-by-3-inch discs. Take two of the 1-by-3-inch slices and cut them to a length of 49 1/4 inches. These are the Teak Outdoor Bench Seat supports. Cut two 13-inch pieces from another of these boards. These pieces will serve as end aprons. The final two 1-by-3-inch boards should be cut to a length of 50 3/4 inches to form side aprons.
Cut 14 slats from 1-of-4-inch boards. This particular style of the Teak Outdoor Bench Seat has slats that form the center of the seat. Each lamella should be 11 inches long. Cut two more of these boards to a length of 52 4/1 inches to form the sides of the seat. Cut four 17 1/4 inch pieces of a 1-on-4-inch board to form the legs (you can make your legs longer or shorter if you want). Sand your boards. Grinding eliminates minor surface defects and prevents splitter. Stain or paint your boards. Applying a protective coat to this point gives full coverage, even between the splits, which will protect your bench from the elements. Prime boards first if you’re going to paint them.
